Outreach and Mission
Pendleton First Christian Church supports a variety of outreach and mission ministries. Through special annual offerings to Week of Compassion we support ministries that offer disaster relief throughout the world. Another offering is received each year for Reconciliation Ministries whose goal is to eliminate the primary causes of racism in North America. A third offering that is taken up each year occurs on what is called Blanket Sunday. This outreach offering helps provide the right tools to meet immediate and long-term needs of people in crisis: from blankets, tents, and emergency supplies in the wake of disaster to material assistance, education and training, and small-enterprise loans as part of sustainable development programs.
In addition to these and other special offerings, church members often participate in short-term missions both at home and abroad. This awareness and concern for others' well-being is nurtured in even the youngest of our congregation's members. Junior and Senior High School youth may participate in an annual Spring Break mission trip, often traveling to help people in other places build suitable housing and sanitation facilities. Closer to home our church family actively supports the ministry of Habitat for Humanity. Members of our congregation serve on the Umatilla County Habitat Board of Directors and encourage others to participate in the many home builds that occur every year.
