Javascript and Cookies

Cookies are a small bit of information stored anonymously in your browser.

Although there is a great deal of concern over violation of users' privacy through the use of cookies, much of this is misinformation. In the context of this website, our cookies are never used to track any visitor's Internet movements or violate privacy in any way. Cookies are used to store a visitor's preferences to enhance their browsing experience, and Javascript is used to assure that any interations you have with the website perform as expected. It is in your best interest that you enable Javascript and cookies as described below.

Many of the this site's functions require Javascript to be enabled in your browser. If it is not, many of the forms, buttons, or other interactive features may function irratically. To verify that Javascript and cookies are indeed enabled in your browser:

Microsoft Internet Explorer for Windows

    MSIE Cookies
  1. On the main menu at the top of your screen, select "Tools," then "Internet Options."
  2. Click the Security Tab.
  3. Click the "Custom Level" button at the bottom of this window to bring up the Security Settings.
  4. Scroll down until you see the entry for Cookies. Make sure that both "Allow cookies that are stored on your computer" and "Allow per-session cookies" are enabled (see right.)
  5. If you wish, you may select "Prompt" instead of "Enable" for these two entries, but an alert will pop up each time a cookie is set and may become annoying. If you are having problems with this site, however, you may want to do this temporarily to verify that the cookies are actually being set.
  6. MSIE Cookies
  7. Continue scrolling down until you see the entry "Scripting." Under Scripting, make sure the "Active Scripting" Enable button is checked (see right.)
  8. Click OK, then click OK again to close the Internet Options box.

You do not need to turn on or alter the other scripting-related buttons in this box to enable Javascript.

Netscape for Windows

    NN Cookies
  1. On the main menu at the top of your screen, select "Edit," then "Preferences."
  2. Click the word "Advanced" - NOT the plus sign next to it.
  3. Make sure the "Enable JavaScript" box is checked.
  4. Near the bottom of this screen you will see the section for cookies. Check either "Accept all Cookies" or "Accept only cookies that get sent back to the originating server."
  5. If you wish, you may check the "Warn me before accepting a cookie" box, but an alert will pop up each time a cookie is set and may become annoying. If you are having problems with the this site, however, you may want to do this temporarily to verify that the cookies are actually being set.
  6. Click OK.

Microsoft Internet Explorer for Mac

    MSIE Mac Scripting
  1. On the main menu at the top of your screen, select "File," then "Preferences."
  2. Select "Security Zones," then click the "Settings" button at the lower right.
  3. Scroll to the bottom until you see "Scripting." Make sure both scripting options are set to Enabled. This enables Javascript in your browser.
  4. Click OK to this box, then continue scrolling down in the Internet Explorer Preferences until you see "Cookies" and select it.
  5. At the lower right next to "When receiving cookies," set drop-down list to Never Ask.
  6. MSIE Mac Cookies
  7. If you wish, you may select one of the "Warn" options in this list, but an alert will pop up each time a cookie is set and may become annoying. If you are having problems with ththis site, however, you may want to do this temporarily to verify that the cookies are actually being set.
  8. Click OK to close the Internet Explorer Preferences box.

Netscape for Mac

The procedure is the same as for Netscape for Windows above.


A Note on Cookies

There is a general belief that cookies are bad and are used to infringe on the customer's privacy. While Internet marketers can use cookies to gather some information about a user, the cookies used on this site will never be used as a marketing tool. The cookie set by this site only enhances your browsing experience by:
